Avril completes CID’s ECORESPONSIBLE Level I certification
On May 28th, Avril was awarded the ECORESPONSABLE Level I certification by the Conseil des Industries Durables (CID) in collaboration with Ecocert Canada.
In the fall of 2018, Avril joined the CID’s ECORESPONSIBLE program to promote and accelerate the integration of sustainable development principles into its business model. As a result, the Quebec-based company has set up a committee responsible for establishing an organizational, environmental, social and economic action plan to meet the criteria of the ECORESPONSABLE certification.
Level I completed
The ECORESPONSIBLE Certification has four levels: Commitment, Performance, Optimum and Elite. To be Level I certified, Avril is committed to respecting the “sustainable development charter” and has implemented a strategic planning process to structure its initiatives and measure its evolution. Among these is the marketing of products selected according to strict supply criteria, food waste reduction, optimal management of residual materials and creating a work environment conducive to employee fulfillment.
The first level now reached, it is with confidence that Avril begins Level II. “Our goal is to be an eco-responsible leader in the field of food distribution. We are so excited bout this that even before teaming up with the CID, we replaced our fruit and vegetable trays made of polystyrene foam with a 100% recyclable alternative. Not to mention the composting project we are working on” says Marie-Gaëlle Lacasse, Director of Human Resources.
