The role of proteins
Proteins play a fundamental role in the proper functioning of the body, since they are the main components of cellular structures. Once ingested, they break down, thanks to digestion, into small molecules called amino acids. There are twenty different amino acids, nine of which are said to be “essential”, as these are not produced by the body and must be provided by food. How to consume them?
Proteins are also known to be essential nutrients for the development and maintenance of muscle mass. Active people, or people who simply want an extra protein intake, can consume protein via supplementing. Naturally fermented brown rice protein can be consumed in different ways. It can be mixed in with water and dairy or plant-based milk, it can be integrated to smoothies, pancake mix, snacks such as energy bites, cookies, muffins and yogurts and in soups and sauces for the plain version.
Smoothie énergique recipe
- ¾ cup of unsweetened plant-based beverage
- ½ banana, peeled and sliced
- ½ cup strawberries, sliced
- ¼ cup mango, diced
- ¼ cup ice cubes
- 1 tbsp. date paste
- 2 tbsp. chia gel* (optional)
* Chia gel:
- ¼ cup chia seeds
- 1 ½ cup cold water
Blend all ingredients until a homogeneous texture is obtained.
(Optional: Add the chia gel to the bottom of the glass, before pouring the smoothie in.)
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Let sit 4 hours or overnight. (Stays fresh for 5 days.)
